Curriculum Specialist
Position Overview:
The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for observing standardized educational practices, ensuring that FLM’s Curriculum meets state and national criteria as it evolves with anti-oppressive frameworks. The work involves any and all school-related tasks, projects, and initiatives. This includes: research and writing, distilling educational literature, and idea curation. The Curriculum Specialist also participates in general Education Team tasks and responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities: (Workload: 5-8 hrs/wk)
Assist in Education Team general tasks
Research requirements for charter and private schools
Adjusts education and state standards (e.g. - TEKS) to fit the mold of the school
Develop methods of implementing best practices, guidelines, and school values into FLM’s curriculum & standards
Conduct interviews, surveys, and focus groups to determine community needs for the school and the overall betterment of FLM
Coordinate with Education Team members in achieving school goals
Required Skills & Experiences:
Research capabilities & experience
Familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) or other School Curricula
Strong ability to closely collaborate with multiple team members
Education Team Description
The Education Team focuses heavily on the continued process of building out FLM’s living curriculum – ensuring that it adapts and molds with best practices in anti-oppressive and culturally relevant education. The education team keeps FLM’s sights on our goal of creating a holistic school and approaches its educational work in both external and internal ways. Externally through trainings and workshops and internally through continual learning processes for FLM members. The education team houses the Deconstructing Masculinity program, LGBTQIA+ programming, a reading group, and more.
