Dr. Lynn Hampton

Lynn Hampton, Ph.D. grew up attending urban inner–city schools before attending Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA.  At Wellesley, Lynn doubled majored in Political Science and Africana Studies. After graduating from Wellesley College, she earned a doctorate in Sociology from Vanderbilt University.  As a critical race theorist, Lynn's research focuses on youth development and identity, race and gender, intersectionality, social capital, and social inequality. 

Lynn has over 15 years of experiencing working in Higher Education.  Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the John V. Roach Honors College at Texas Christian University.  In this role, Lynn created models of best practices as it relates to diversity and pedagogy.  A few of the courses she’s developed include: Beyoncé and Intersectionality, #BlackLivesMatter, and Engaging Difference and Diversity. In these courses, Lynn was able to provide transformative classroom experiences that fostered critical engagement and encouraged students to engage in courageous conversations about race and racism.  Most recently, Dr. Hampton became the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
